Blade S: I usually like to add at least a little paragraph before I start with the h2. I think it's a better practice for SEO and even user experience, because adding a sub-heading right after the main heading, without any text, can look pretty bad. Of course, it depends on your design/layout too.
Didn't get the variation part that well...
Juchel De Leon: Sometimes it can depend on the content formatting, if it doesn't look awkward that your h2 is underneath your h1 and it is reasonable that your doing such thing, I guess you'll not suffer any trouble in doing that. Maybe just make sure you have a valid reason why you formatted your h tags that way!
Suraj Gadage: +Mike Cooke ;Technically speaking ;H1,H2, H3.....H6 are used in levels of importance. H1 might be the heading of your webpage and H2 as a sub-section. As long as your H1 and H2 are defined in that logical order then it shouldn't be a problem. Though I believe there should be two or three lines of content added (if possible) before you have H2 tag. In terms of SEO, the crawlers typically assume that you are using the headers as organizational elements. ;
Hope this helps!
Dave Elliott: I have no problem with a title followed by a sub heading. Although agree that a nice little intro before the sub is better.
Mike Cooke: Basically I am working with ;magento site. Aesthetically it looks fine with H1 and below a h2.
The design of the site / category is the name of the h1 [ Basically a direct keyword match ].
As you begin ,the content, has been started with a h2 tag , prior to me working on it this was a straight keyword very close to the h1 which now has been replaced for the moment with a alternate keyword mixed in with a call to action giving a 4-5 word text h2. [less spammy]
My concern is with them being so close together would I trigger a spam alert, god knows how it hasn't already, ranking aren't great but not bad bad. I agree with all comments and normally I would have moved the h2 lower down the page however I have a decent sized paragraph below the h2 but not enough to move it without it looking out of place.
I appreciate all help, cheers guys for being a great sounding board.
I guess my question is ;
Would in your opinion, would this cause a spam problem.
Juchel De Leon: +Mike Cooke it is totally fine if you have some words that are the same with your h1, just don't over do it. anyways semantically saying putting your target word/s on each "probably" h tags can help you, again just don't over do it! 10 times repetition is i guess the maximum to have your target word/s on a single page.
Mike Cooke: I think at present I am more toning it down as they are pretty close to the wire. I dont mind megento as a platform, I just wish more thought had gone into the theme design. Very buggy..
