Dumb SEO Questions

(Entry was posted by Anna Clark on this post in the Dumb SEO Questions community on Facebook, 11/22/2014).

Getting the traffic we want.

After recently going through a rebrand, our company is now back on the first pages on Google for keywords like `embedded software` and `embedded software development` (I have double checked this using Incognito).
We know that people searching for our keyword can see us, yet we still aren`t getting the traffic we want.
Most of our traffic is for recruitment and only a very small proportion is from potential customers (by which I mean CTOs and Tech directors looking for a company to work on embedded software for their project). As well as this, those that do visit our site aren`t contacting us.
The url is www(dot)bluefruit(dot)co(dot)uk, and you should be able to see what our page titles and meta looks like in Google.
Does anyone have any suggestions on why this may be??

  • Collin Davis: If you are getting traffic but no conversions, then I would suggest relook your keywords. Landing pages also play a big part, so revisit these and see if they are convincing enough for users to sign up.

    The best way to analyze this would be to look at competitor sites. What I would suggest is that target keywords like "Embedded Software Company", "Embedded Software Company",and "Embedded Software Services" that have a much higher user intent.

    "Embedded Software" is too generic of a keyword and is bound to have a lower conversion rate.
  • Federico Sasso: I agree with what +Collin Davis ;said about your keyword strategy.
    On the top of that, if the targeted traffic isn't converting much, I would also consider reviewing your site communication to improve CR: as it is now, it seems to me more tuned on " who we are and what we do " than " how we can help you ".
    Contact form has too many fields in my opinion (even if non-mandatory), I'd personally skip them and postpone the details once you have a lead. And what about proposing a contact at your success stories pages? Something like " Do you have similar need? Contact us "
  • Anna Clark: Thanks +Collin Davis ;and +Federico Sasso ;for your helpful ideas. The website is an ongoing process in itself, and we have plans to add more CTAs etc. but I like the suggestion of proposing contact on the Projects page a lot, as much of our traffic goes straight to that page anyway. ;
  • Gregory Kristan: I am not trying to be rude ;+Anna Clark ;but didn't you ask the same question on November 18th?
  • Anna Clark: +Gregory Kristan ;Yes I did, I was told by one of the page moderators to post it again with extra detail so that some of the experts on their Hangout panel could help answer my question better this week. ;
  • T L C Domestic Services Ltd: Ensure your website keywords are utilised across ads like Google Adwords, content on your site could be key. Have you used the Google webmaster tool? Linked Inn ranks well :-)
  • T L C Domestic Services Ltd: also utilise negative keywords , good luck
