Dumb SEO Questions

Do I have to focus on Mobile UX?

Does Google go for mobile-first indexing even on websites which have over 95% desktop traffic?Because of the niche I serve, I won`t ever get much mobile traffic. Do I have to focus on Mobile UX and mobile Pagespeed although it provides no practical benefit for visitors? It seems like a waste of resource if there`s no SEO benefit.

  • Aakash Raj: Thank you Alejandro Meyerhans

  • Francois-Pierre Marcil: I know how you feel, the whole logic around mobile-first is so bad.

  • Aakash Raj: It is asinine! A total waste of my time and resources. Thank you for confirming it needs to be done.

  • Perry Bernard: Have you verified the mobile volume? Just asking. Because many desktop conversions are driven by mobile discovery. Just wanted to check if you considered this scenario or others where mobile might actually drive value for you. Other than that though, yes, it’s annoying. Check your GSC. It will confirm that/if you are mobile first indexed.

  • Michael Martinez: "Do I have to focus on Mobile UX and mobile Pagespeed although it provides no practical benefit for visitors?"

    No, you do not.

Nor will it affect your rankings if your site isn`t mobile-friendly.

Your site may not appear in some mobile search results, but that`s not going to affect desktop search results.

  • Brenda Malone: I had not realized this --thank you for this small nugget.

  • Aakash Raj: Thanks Michael Martinez! That`s a relief.
