Boosting a blog post on Facebook

Does boosting a blog post on Facebook help with how that post ranks in Google? Im just wondering if things like more likes, shares and traffic to it would send out stronger signals to Google about it and help it rank higher...

  • Dave Elliott: Social signals are not part of the google algorithm.

That said obviously the more people who see your content the more chance there is for them to link to it or read it etc. Which will help.
  • Masatake Wasa (wasaweb): No, or at least not directly. Google has been making it very clear over a prolonged period of time that it does not use social signals as ranking signals. However, there may be an indirect causation: in that the more people like / engage with posts on social media platforms, the more people visit the page, and the more links they generate.

  • David Jones: ok thanks guys, thats what I was thinking and I supposed people would be trying to game the SERPs far too much if it was possible but I was thinking more along the lines of more in-direct affects like you said Masatake, thanks!
