Blog Pagination, rel=next and rel=prev

First off,  I love you guys, you`re always so helpful :) Can someone please explain how to implement Pagination in regards to a blog? If we have a blog on a website with posts that go on for several pages, is it necessary for SEO to implement the rel=next and prev tags?

  • Neeraj Pandey: +Valentina Huff you are correct. If any article goes to be completed in more than one page that comes in pagination. How to use this there are several ways. 1- first page to be indexed and other pages to be noindex but do follow, second is canonical to first page though it is weak as search engine follows canonical to other page only when the content is at least 60% duplicate. So for this situation where the title of article was same but there were two or more pages existing to get completed for an article google introduced rel prev next now, on first page you will use canonical and next and then afterwards u will use pre next and canonical to self pointing pages ..also on last page like first page you will use pre and canonical. Thanks
  • Suraj Gadage: +Valentina Huff ;We use rel=“prev” and “next” HTML attributes as a method of indicating a sequence of paginated pages. By using rel="prev"/"next", we essentially create a chain between all blog pages in the pagination series. ;

    Using this complete sequence of rel="prev"/"next", Google is able to consolidate this group of paginated content into a single entry in their index. This essentially tells Google to treat the sequence of paginated content as one entry within their index. ;

    Since you use WP CMS, use Pagination plugin like Pagination by BestWebSoft for implementation.
