  • Brenda Malone: No, there is a lot more to it. Do some Google searches for Website SEO Migrations.

  • El Bikito: Brenda Malone Thanks a million for the KW. I am on it.

  • Stockbridge Truslow: Wait... what exactly is the task at hand here? Moving your `Current site to a domain"? It`s already on a domain of some sort. If you`re just giving it a new one - you point the new domain to the site and update the domain on the server so it resolves to that. Then redirect all the old to the new. About as basic as it gets, really.

  • El Bikito: Stockbridge Truslow basically my brand got sued by a closely named brand who came first.

So I am 301 redirecting the old domain to the new one.

Feel free to leave any other pointers you think i should know.

I will of course do an in-depth research on the matter.

  • El Bikito: Stockbridge Truslow Hi correct me if I`m wrong for the following queries:

    a) I redirect the old site to the new domain.b) I redirect each page to the new page equivalent, individually (i.e- The last homepage will redirect to the new homepage, the last pricing page will redirect to the new pricing page)c) I have remove the old analytics code, and re-implement those to the new ones?

  • Mari Sa: Why will you have a drop in traffic with the redirects?

  • El Bikito: Mari Sa I have seen it a few times. Not sure why this happens tho.

  • Richard Hearne: Because it takes time for Google to recalculate everything, and during that period you will surely see deltas in organic traffic. The bigger/older/more complex the site, the more recalculation that`s generally required.

  • El Bikito: Richard Hearne Makes perfect sense. Thanks for the clarification.

  • Richard Hearne: There`s also a tool called Change of Address inside GSC which can help with this. If you maintain the current slugs (only change the domain) this should work more quickly and accurately.
