Should I include PDFs in the sitemap.xml?

I have a directory type website advertising businesses and a lot of them have a PDF on their page so I have about 63 PDFs. Firstly should I include them in the sitemap.xml? And can they be canonicalized? Do they need to be canonicalised? It is just my Screaming Frog is saying they are missing the canonical. Thanks
