Should I have Google recrawl my site?

So, I got my companies SEO dumped into my lap today because our SEO guy left and I am the only one there that knows anything about it. So, I ran an SEO audit with our SEMrush account and it says we have 19k broken links. Should I have Google recrawl the site to confirm that?

  • Jeremy S Cowan: Have you checked some of them manually ?
  • Chris Gould: Yes I have checked several of them and they are indeed broken.
  • Jeremy S Cowan: I would fix them and then resubmit your sitemap
  • Chris Gould: Thank you, I will do that.
  • Joshua McAdams: That`s a lot of fixing
  • Joshua McAdams: Is there a pattern to the breakage?
  • Chris Gould: Joshua McAdams That`s what I am researching now, at 3 am, ugh. There was recently a huge nav menu change so it has to be something there. It`s okay I`m persistent so I will get it!
  • Joshua McAdams: hopeful you can just do a wild card redirect and take care of it but nav changes should have reflected actual URI locations.
  • Jeremy S Cowan: What’s the URL? just curious
  • Fabiola Diamond: Jeremy S Cowan It is the complete address of a webpage. Including the domain and other details where the page is located
  • Jeremy S Cowan: im asking for what the specific url is not what a url is 😆
  • Fabiola Diamond: Oops! I was surprise to have someone here asking that question but you never know. Newbies may ask that question
  • Jeremy S Cowan: Fabiola Diamond well thanks for clarifying that 🤦‍♂️
  • Chris Gould: FIXED!!! Thank you so much for all that replied. It was a broken link in the footer so essentially every page had a broken link.
  • Chris Gould: Now I`m going to bed for an hour so I can get up and go to work
  • Joynal Abedin: Chris Gould If you need a person to work for you, let me know.
    Thank you !
  • Terence Tay: You should leave the company. And fast.
  • Scott Demaret: Run a crawl with http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html it will give a quick breakdown of broken links etc
  • Michael Martinez: Pull the raw server log files or AWStats reports and examine the 404 report. That will tell you which links you really need to be concerned about. It will show you typos that have been crawled as well as old destinations that have been removed without being redirected.

Start with the URLs that are requested most often and work your way down the list.
  • Asif Yusuf: I wouldn’t worry to much about sem rush unless you see errors in Google search console. 90 percent of SEO is content focus on that. Don’t make major changes to pages that get traffic especially changing the meta tags. Good luck with your new responsibilities!
