Does DA or traffic even matter for my goal?

Ok lets say I want to rank for keyword "probiotics"550k monthly searches

Lets also say that the page I want to rank is an amazon product page (So it already has a very strong foundation and authority built up)

Product page example: https://www.amazon.com/Natures-Bounty-Probiotics-Supplement-Acidophilus/dp/B0014CVXMW

---------

- (Assume all of these sites have the same niche relevancy)
- AL: get to page 1 for keyword "probiotics":
1) Which of these backlinks is better to go for?
2) How many backlinks should you get rank page 1?
3) Does DA or traffic even matter for this goal/objective of ranking keyword?
DA 25 - 230, 000 monthly traffic (relevant to niche)

or

DA 65 - 1, 000 monthly traffic (relevant to niche)

or
DA 40 - 60, 000 monthly traffic (relevant to niche)

  • Michael Martinez: Domain authority has nothing to do with the value of a backlink in a search engine`s algorithms. Nor will it in any way predict how much a link might help with rankings.

Instead of thinking about which links would help you the most (because for a prod…See More
  • Jason Falls: I see, but what if I am trying to rank an amazon product page? I don`t own amazon.com but I own the item being sold there. I`ve seen other amazon product pages ranked #1 for a certain keyword, like this for example: …See More
  • Michael Martinez: Jason Falls Search engines only have 2 things to work with:

    1) Content
    2) Links

Neither is more important than the other to the search engines. Web marketers have spent the last 20 years telling each other that links are everything. So if you`re in that group of people then the best link building strategy I can suggest (that is, lowest risk) is for you to encourage people to link to your Amazon product page.

That said, my first priority would always be to do whatever I could (ethically, complying with Amazon`s guidelines) to rank well in Amazon`s site search. That`s more important than being found in a Google query because most people who are inclined to buy from Amazon tend to look for products directly through Amazon`s search system.

The same is true for every ecommerce platform I know of.

THAT said, if you have your own Website (standalone domain, free-hosted subdomain, whatever) then you could leverage that to encourage members of Amazon`s Associates program to promote your products.

If they like the commissions they can earn (an incentive over which you admittedly have relatively little control) then THEY will ensure your products are found in Google`s search results. Anything and everything (cost-effective) you can do to help affiliate marketers make more money from promoting your products will ultimately help YOU make more money.

I`ve worked it from all three angles: Amazon seller, Amazon Associate, and just a normal Webmaster trying to rank in Google for traffic.

After 20 years of doing this I never put all my traffic eggs into one basket. There is no source of traffic big enough to persuade me to ignore the others, especially when it comes to making money.
  • Loren Baker: Since Google doesn’t list an ECom site on page 1 or 2 for that term, I’d recommend identifying the probiotics terms which do get transactional results, and start there.
