rel=next and rel=prev

Just to clarify.. if I have a "view-all" page that all paginated pages in the series are canonicalized to, I do not need to have rel=next / rel=prev on the component pages, right?

  • Bill Slawski: You ideally should have pagination markup on all of the pages in that series. The canonical link element should point to the view-all page. Sorry, I was updating my answer, because I missed the "view-all" in the question the first time I answered it. The page you point at from Google probably should say pagination likely isn`t necessary, unless you might want individual component pages to possible show up as a search result. Otherwise, if the canonicals all point to the view all page, the pagination markup likely isn`t needed.
  • Alan Bleiweiss: View all is toxic if the view all version page speed is toxic.
