Redirecting an old, yet high-trafficked page

What can be expected when redirecting an old, yet high-trafficked blog post, to another relevant post or Homepage?I`m considering this move for a couple blog posts that attract keywords outside the focal point of the company.

YOUR ANSWERS

Selected answers from the Dumb SEO Questions Facebook & G+ community.

  • Jeremy L. Knauff: Do not redirect it to the home page. There will be zero value in that.
  • Michael Martinez: I think you would be better off improving the content of the page you want the traffic for. Those people are visiting the high-traffic page for a reason. You might as well be directing tourists waiting in line for a museum to a fast food restaurant. They`ll be about as happy with you for doing so.
  • Jayasanker Jayakrishnan: instead get higher traffic for those keywords and use anchor text to direct traffic to home or landing page.
