Priority and secondary keywords

Hi everyone - I’m trying to identify priority and secondary keywords I need for a website. This is the first time I’m doing this in years. How many keywords do you think should be in each category? The website will have about 8 landing pages and the rest will be blog posts.

  • Alan Bleiweiss: My recommendations in my audit work, is this: For each primary category, identify up to three or four phrase variations that are all highly relevant and tightly grouped - designate one or two as the primary focus (page Title, H1, core content), and if you can create enough human readable (meaning not insulting to readers) content, work in the variations gently. Those additional phrases need to be worked in carefully so as to not over-optimize. Primary emphasis needs to be on those top two though. It really is an art form as much as anything. If you have more phrases that could be viable, that`s where focusing in on sub-topics comes in, to create sub-pages that are also evergreen, because for all the good that blog pages do, it`s evergreen pages, tightly grouped in proper silos, that will get the long-term sustainable wins.
