Moving to a hosting provider located in a different country

Hi. I am curious to know if someone has experienced a massive drop in organic traffic due to moving to a hosting provider with a server located in a different country. I have found the best web hosting deals (40% cheaper) are with servers located America but my current server is located Australia for my .com.au site. I read this article and seems Google does not really care much where the host server is located as long as it can load my site fast. I appreciate your experiences and opinions on this topic. Thanks

  • Perry Bernard: Your summary is correct. So long as it loads fast enough you can host it anywhere you like. Just avoid shared IP addresses, which is a different but related issue.
  • Mau Esmar: Perry Bernard why shared IP addresses can be an issue? thanks
  • Perry Bernard: Mau Esmar there`s some possible issues of shared hosting affecting others at same address in terms of performance - although it depends on which host we`re talking about. As for the address itself, there used to be some concern around having the same IP as another site with poor reputation but I think Google has confirmed this isn`t any drama. Generally, I recommend isolated cloud containers with dedicated IP and server config images. Focus more on service speed, reliability and scalability than on cost.
  • Richard Hearne: Are you on ccTLD or gTLD? Where you host can make a difference if gTLD and no geotargeting.
  • Mau Esmar: Richard Hearne pls translate in human language. thanks.
  • George G.: Mau Esmar what he mean is, ccTLD like .uk or gTLD like .com/.net. If you have local site for the country, you would want to host in that country or near it. If it is global, you also want to host near your target audience (where it is the most, e.g US) or use a CDN (content delivery network) to deliver the content fast worldwide.
  • Jk Dove: If you`re using a solid, reputable CDN, the short answer is no.
