Doc Sheldon: Actually, Ryan Jones` response is more accurate. Pagerank is computed from hundreds of factors, and then contributes to you placement (with other factors)
Michael Martinez: PageRank is named for Larry Page, by the way. It`s not the "page ranking" algorithm. It`s the "ranking algorithm (mostly) developed by Larry Page". A ranking algorithm is used to sort lists of things. Search engines use many ranking algorithms in their processes.
