Indirect Outbound Link

anchor texts->internal link->external link?

I have seen some sites having one practise for out bound linking. That it first hyperlink to an internal page (link) which is ultimately redirected to an external page.

For example, words SEO predictions for 2016 is linked to a page knkayastha.in/blog/SEO-predictions-2016/ which redirects to moz.com/SEO-predictions/.

Does it have any #SEO value? Is it a legitimate practice?
Please elaborate if the internal page link is of an old deleted page or of a non-existent page.

  • Toni Anicic: Sometimes people do redirects through an internal URL that is disallowed through robots.txt. Think of it as rel=nofollow. It's an equally valid way of preventing link juice to flow to untrusted or sponsored sources. Or as Google says here "Adding a rel="nofollow" attribute to the <a> tag
    Redirecting the links to an intermediate page that is blocked from search engines with a robots.txt file" - https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66356?hl=en&rd=1
