I`m looking for some advice regarding domains

I`m looking for some advice regarding domains... I own the .net and the .co.uk of my name but not the .com.What would be the main downsides to using a .net instead of a .com? Would it be best to add an extra word to the domain and get a dot com? Or would it be best to use the exact brand name (my name) with the .net?

  • Richard Hearne: Purely from an SEO POV? I`d say none or close to none, but from a branding perspective you`re likely going to bleed emails and visits to the .com version. Generally, the .com version of a domain is going to have 10X the USD value of the .net. If you cannot get the .com of your brand AND you do want to expand beyond your own country (I presume UK), then you probably want to have a gTLD (.com or .net).

  • Emma Schwartz: Richard Hearne the dot com isn`t being used but yes it`s not ideal if I`m using the .net and someone else has the .com. Good to know it shouldnt matter seo wise. Alternatively, I will just have to add a word before or after my name (hopefully something that doesnt change the brand too much)
