I have keywords where I am not happy with the rankings

hello all. long time lurker first time asker. I have KW where I am not happy with the rankings but are already part of existing content. Currently thinking of starting a new page dedicated to that key word as opposed to editing the existing page but I am worried about KW cannibilization and mutliple pages with same KW. how do I approach? Thanks in advance!

Devendra Pandey: I feel the best strategy would be review your existing page for the content and onpage parameters. If the quality of content and other parameters are done correctly you can surely improve with the same page and KW without going for the new page..
Kortni Remer: If you want a new page I would remove the keyword and it`s related content except for a link with the keyword as anchor text in content ie your keyword is red shoes ..Check our information on red shoes (link to red shoe page with red shoes as anchor).

Michael Martinez: "KW cannibilization and mutliple pages with same KW"That is a myth. Just create the new page, leave the old page alone, and don`t worry about it.ADDED ON EDIT: 2 pages about the same topic is fine. 200 are not.
