  • Michael Martinez: If you were only linking to other people`s sites as recommendations for your friends, what would you link to?

  • Sakib Shadman: Michael Martinez I would link to whatever piece of page/content matches the insert page. Basically relevance.

If I had multiple relevant pages, then I`d pick the one that would get me sales, branding, or the one that`s losing/gaining rank.

That isn`t how natural links work. You`re trying to influence the search algorithms. That`s not something this group recommends.

Links are good and helpful, but natural links are less likely to be ignored or to get you into trouble.

People do sometimes link directly to product pages - when they are recommending specific products. But I guarantee you, those links aren`t embedded in guest posts and rarely use targeted keywords as anchor text.

If you want recommendations on a link building strategy, my vote goes for links that are less spammy and more helpful (to the reader). That means stop fussing over keyword anchor text, create content that helps the readers of other sites, and don`t worry about what everyone else seems to be doing for links.
