Keywords are not being distributed well across important HTML tags

Newbie question - I`m running SEO analysis of two websites I work on and I`m getting this for both. Any suggestions how to improve my tags? "Your main Keywords are not being distributed well across important HTML tags"I have my keyword in my title and meta description. Not sure where else they mean. I mean I do have H2`s out there, but those are used to separate thoughts and are subtitles basically which wouldn`t have the keyword in there. Thanks in advance!

  • Stockbridge Truslow: In theory, your main keyword(s) should be something that describes what the entire page is about. If not, then it`s not really the main keyword of the page.

Keep in mind that these tools that talk about this are somewhat limited. And that Google has no idea what you are targeting for keywords - it`s going to look at the content and decide what it`s about and then rank it for that. The tools just help (in a very limited way) give you some best practice concepts to help ensure that what Google sees the page being about is the same as what you`re thinking the page is about.

As such... a page about "Widgets" that only uses the word "Widgets" in the title and meta description (which doesn`t even appear on the page) probably isn`t really about widgets. So your tool is just saying, "Hey, are you sure this is really about widgets? You`re not really talking about them very much, here."

  • Robert L Mango: Thank you, makes sense. Its a blog so I have plenty of topics and I`m sure its being read as one thing while its a variety of things. Thanks for the info!

  • Stockbridge Truslow: A single blog post covers many different topics?

I`d need to exactly what you mean to know for certain, but if something is about a lot of things, then it`s ultimately about nothing. Well, not nothing, but "no one thing" - which is, of course, what people search for. One thing.

I`d imagine it would be hard to rank for anything that way. Again.. I`d need to see the specifics to be certain, but... it doesn`t sound like a good core SEO strategy at its very heart.

  • Robert L Mango: Stockbridge Truslow no, the entire site is a blog, each post has only 1 topic. its an entertainment blog, so one post may be on a TV show, the next maybe on sports, and the next on a video game. covers all forms of entertainment. I use Yoast specifically for keyword content for each page.

  • Robert L Mango: Stockbridge Truslow my hope was that I`d get people coming for "entertainment blog" while also getting people for "Squid game review" while attracting another audience that would like my "NHL 2021 season preview"

  • Robert L Mango: Stockbridge Truslow and the main reason I`m doing this is not to make money on my blog, but to learn as much as I can about SEO as I`m going to start selling SEO services

  • Stockbridge Truslow: Alright in that case, you`ve likely got categories. Your main page is the Name of Your Blog and you want that to be keyed toward being an "entertainment blog" - gotcha. And, of course, there won`t be a ton of text on that page because you`re just saying that`s what it is and then getting to the posts.

Then each category will be about a specific thing - TV Shows, Movies, Sports, etc. As people drill down in there, you won`t have much written content because again... it`s just a list of posts within the categories.

Your SEO plugin isn`t going to be aware of the actual content coming out - and every time you add a new post, the title and snippet will get added and the content will change. Don`t worry about those. Just make sure your category names are descriptive of the major subject the posts are talking about and you`re good to go.

The SEO plugin IS useful for the individual posts, though. Your Squid Game review is a review - so you may not use that word very much outside of the title - but Squid Game as a term WILL be used throughout. So in optimizing for "Squid Game" - your tool will give you some suggestions that may be useful.

Again - it`s just a tool, though. It`s to give you suggestions - but sometimes the suggestions aren`t the best. You still need to use your own judgement as to whether or not you think the suggestions are good or not.

  • Buth Main: Your main Keywords are not being distributed well across important HTML tagsShould you really have to do that?
