What`s the better format for pictures? PNG of JPEG?

What`s the better format for pictures to be in to improve load time? PNG or JPEG? Let`s say you take screenshots of things on your computer for your blog posts, so you are not taking any high resolution pictures. I also resize all images before uploading them to my blog.
