Dumb SEO Questions

(Entry was posted by Edwin Jonk on this post in the Dumb SEO Questions community on Facebook, 08/06/2016).

Is "SEO" the right term anymore?

There are a lot of issues with this article:

- " It’s all about building high-quality, useful, intent-based content for all stages of the buyer journey so as to be there in a consumer’s moment of need " No, there are other goals besides selling stuff. For example, brand awareness projects.

- " The web developer of the past was only interested in front-end usability and back-end integration, and often knew little to nothing about SEO best practices. " I rather have a great dev that does that. Namely make a great site, than a dev that "knows" about SEO. Let me do my job, please.

- " an SEO’s role has largely evolved into that of a content experience analyst, who is basically a professional charged with optimizing a brand’s content across multiple devices, platforms and web properties to attract consumers at all stages of the customer journey. "
Not really, you need to rank and standout in the SERP`s. Is "SEO" the right term anymore?

  • Micah Fisher-Kirshner: Totally disagree with this article, I spend way more time with technical areas than I used to.

In fact, given Google is better, though in no way perfect, actually takes more work in technical work to make sure things are set up correctly. When Google didn't care about Javascript, the need to focus on such technical areas outside of html made things less complicated.
