Two sites, same content, different countries

I have 2 sites for 2 different countries. Both sites are the same, just aimed at different countries. They have very similar content on the landing pages. Is this a bad for the sites SERP?

Josh Linton: Richard Hearne thanks for your questions. They have .ie and .mt domains. I havenâ€™t done anything actively with canonical or HREFLANG but they are in English
