Trick to rank high on Google for specific keywords

Also what tricks are some websites using to just rank very high on Google for specific keywords but are no where to be found in Bing or Yahoo.
I noticed they have many more pages indexed in Google and Bing than I do but many are just rip offs from Trip Advisor.
Is this legal or a bit of black hat.
Maybe when I fix website with social media sites I will catch up? Thank you as always!

  • Suraj Gadage: +Steven Ciccantelli ;without looking at the specific website that you are talking about I can't tell you what is it being done differently (on page/off page) than others. ;

    Google is clearly the leader in the Search space and a very mature and sophisticated search engine.  ;They do a remarkable job of indexing a wide variety of content.  ;Bing, on the other hand, is still in its infancy and has yet to develop some of the rich indexing capabilities that exist with Google. Hence, you see always the difference in keyword rankings and # of pages indexed.

    Why don't you PM me your website and competitor website name and then probably I can help you more on this matter?
  • Steven “abraxi-taxi” Ciccantelli: +Suraj Gadage ok I will try to.
  • Dave Elliott: no one cares about yahoo/bing! bing has its own webmastertool type thing so submit your sitemap to that(or get yoast to do it for you) other then that i dont pander to bing.
  • Steven “abraxi-taxi” Ciccantelli: Hey I'm a gold Bing member lol
  • Micah Fisher-Kirshner: An interesting way to phrase the question... Usually it's about how to rank better on Binghoo than how one can do well on Google while doing poorly on Bing. (Or how to rank better on Google since one's doing well on Binghoo)

    Honestly, I don't think people try to do what you're asking, but if you're looking for a quick way... simplest is to just specifically block Binghoo bots and do the normal SEO tactics for Google. :)

  • Steven “abraxi-taxi” Ciccantelli: +Jim Munro I always share success.To clarify I am usually 1st or 2nd on Google and Binghoo.My competitors are just using Google but have high ranking websites on the king but are not present on Bing or Yahoo.It would be nice to know how they are doing this.
    We are a taxi service so being 1st on all major search engines is our goal.
  • Jim Munro: Yep. I think that's a good move that will become more important over time.
