Swapping homepage with another page

  Josu Sánchez Arnalda: I had one internal page , that now became my home page... so the url of that interna page doesnt exist anymore, so I made redirect to the old url to the homepage, where is located now . Hope it’s clear . Google didn’t update this changed yet . I’m affraid what will happend

  Richard Hearne: I would be very surprised if your ranking didn`t change. No idea if better or worse. But I really.do not understand why you would do this? What did you expect to happen? My guess is that Google may not like this at all.

  Josu Sánchez Arnalda: Richard Hearne I want my money page to be my homepage , this way I will get more visits on that page and I will tell google that my site is completly about that topic .
  
  It was a mistake to make the most important page of my website an internal page . 3 years later I gonna change it , I’m very curious to see what happens , I hope I won’t destroy my rankings

  Ben Jablonski: are you using wordpress? because that would be as simple as setting your hompage as your "front page" or home, and changing the urls back to what they should be

  Josu Sánchez Arnalda: Ben Jablonski yes I did it using Wordpress , I took the internal page and set it as home page , automatically the home page became an internal url . I want to know if will have negative consequences , I think it will be better for that page to be the home , as it will get more power and traffic , better than being an internal url

  but in terms of negative consequences, usually when you change urls you`ll see an initial hit in seo performance -- which is why it is best practice to avoid changing urls as much as is reasonable. but if the changes you made are better for the user and better optimized for the search engines, you should see improvement. if the changes you made were worse than what they were before, you`ll see a drop in performance
