Sudden fall in the indexed pages

Hi Folks!

I have attached an image of index status in GWT, showing a sudden fall in the indexed pages. Does anyone know why this is happening? Did I make a mistake in the page coding? Or it`s a normal search engine activity.

Your help will be highly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

  • Toni Anicic: Hi mate. I have an exact same thing on one of my websites at exactly the same date. Organic traffic didn't change and if I do a site: search in Google it gives the correct number in the search results so probably a bug.
  • Toni Anicic: Actually now I checked a lot of websites and they all seem to have the same issue.
  • Suraj Gadage:  ; ; ;If you see a sudden drop in the number of indexed pages, it might mean that your server is down or overloaded, or that Google is having trouble accessing your content.

    Also, one more thing according to Google Webmaster Trends Analyst - Gary Illyes, when the webpage is showing low-quality content to the users, then it's been temporarily removed from the search results. Albeit, such problems arise when a website has been hacked. ;
  • Toni Anicic:  ;I have access to over 100 different websites' search consoles, trust me, there is a bug on 8/23/15.
