Are hyphens in a H1 tag invisible to Googlebot?

Can anyone tell me me about hyphens in H1 tags.  Are hyphens in a H1 tag invisible to Googlebot?  Eg. The phrase "Portrait Photographer - Wellington"  does  Google see "Portrait Photographer - Wellington" or "Portrait Photographer Wellington"?

  • Edwin Jonk: Googlebot will read the hyphen. ;
  • Rob Maas: And do you think it will make a difference that matters?
  • Jann Grond: Won't make a difference.
  • Luke Pilkinton-Ching: +Rob Maas ;Hi there Rob.  ;I'm not sure, hence the question.  ;I'm targeting a page for "photographer wellington"  ;So my question is if I have a H1 header that is "Headshot Photographer - Wellington" will Googlebot weight it the same as "Headshot Photographer Wellington".  ;

    You follow?  ;
  • Jon Tromans: +Luke Pilkinton-Ching ;I'd write 'Headshot photographer in Wellington' as it reads better for the user but any of the ways mentioned should work fine...
  • Luke Pilkinton-Ching: +Jon Tromans  ;Woah . . .  ;so you saying that Googlebot will disregard 'in' in the phrase "headshots photographer in wellington"?
  • Jon Tromans: Pretty sure Google ignores words like in, at, is etc.... having a hyphen or not won't make anu difference IMO.... having 'in' just makes it a little more user friendly
  • Luke Pilkinton-Ching: +Jon Tromans ;Very interesting.  ;Thanks a million Jon.
  • Jann Grond: jo guys this micro-seo..
    just do whats best for your users and google will love you too.
  • Luke Pilkinton-Ching: +Jann Grond ; Yes, my question is micro-seo, but it's still a question I was keen to ask.  ;
