Dumb SEO Questions

SEO and scalability

Group, we are searching for a new hosting company for our website.  Being a newbie with limited resources, I chose GoDaddy website builder when initially creating our site.  As the site has grown (and as I learn more about SEO), I am realizing that website builder has SIGNIFICANT limitations when it comes to SEO and scalability.  I am also facing the inability to migrate my current site from godaddy website builder (due to limitations with website builder), so am looking at having to build the new site from scratch.

My goal is to create a large website (starting at around 80 pages) but growing by 2 or so pages a week indefinitely and including a massive amount of content.  I also don`t write code so something that is user friendly from the creator standpoint (but not something that I won`t be able to migrate down the road like website builder).  What new hosting company do you guys recommend I look into??

  • Suraj Gadage: +Hunter & Hein, Attorneys at Law, PLLC ;You are right. Website builder has significant limitations and you can't do much on the website from an SEO standpoint. Let me help you to solve your problem here.

    1. Before you kill your you existing website ;
    I recommend to take the backup of the website before you plan to re-design it. Since its built using website builder, you need to save the website pages manually. How? Open each web page and hit ctr + S button to save it on your computer. Make sure you also record the url structure of each webpage ( i will tell you later why)

    2. Which website builder and hosting company?
    As you have mentioned above that you don't know how to code. I recommend you to design your website using WordPress CMS. One of the popular and easy to use website builder (also easy to migrate whenever you want)

    Godaddy allows you to install WordPress with one click. But If you don't want to continue with them then I would recommend to go with HostGator (personal experience).

    3. Website designing using WordPress
    Presuming that you would go with WordPress CMS, create different webpages that used to exist on the website and put the content up again using backup files. ;

    In case you change the url structure while creating a new website then add a 301 redirect plugin that will help you to set 301 redirect to old urls to new (here you can use the list of old ulrs that would have recorded during the backup)

    This entire process will ensure your SEO efforts are kept intact. Let me know if you need additional help :)
