Preferred domain on Search Console

I recently re-branded and had to change domains to reflect the new name. I have redirected the old domain to the new one and indicated on Search Console that I am doing that as well. It has been several months now and I am still not getting the option of selecting the preferred domain on Search Console. Is there a reason for that ? And does this affect my rankings?
