My partner`s domain has tanked in the SERPS

(Still trying to get to the bottom as to why my partner`s domain has tanked in the SERPS) I notice that when typing the full domain into the Google Search Box ie.. https://www.domainxyz. Google asks... did you mean https://domainxyz. The domain redirects seem to be fine from https:// to https://www. so why is this happening? Any suggestions? The site currently ranks at 201 for a search term that the site was on page 1 for a few years ago...

Neil Cheesman: The site had already tanked (probably over a year ago) and there was as suggested here a lot of thin content on the blog side of the site - my partner isn`t a great blogger so pared that... although those pages are kept in draft... mostly `work in progress` pages
