Permanently Deleting Pages

Permanently Deleting 2K of old news / Content Cleanup .. Good Morning Webmasters, I had a recent question about what is the best way to show Google that pages are permanently.. My Suggestion was to use a 410 Error but is there a way to do a few thousand without having a large file size for my htaccess file. Thx in advance :)

  • William Rock: Thx .. what I was thinking was to add the 410`s to the .htaccess but that really makes that file large .. The agency is rebuilding the entire website so it should be a lot of fun..
  • Michael Stricker: .htaccess is most efficient, can it be applied in stages, categorically?
  • William Rock: Thanks Michael Stricker that is the plan with the migration
  • Pedro Dias: Configure your server to return a 410 by default (instead of a 404), then revert back to 404 when the URLs are gone from the index?... Just thinking out loud here.
