Jim Munro: If you are comfortable with sharing the URL, Gregor Grigorian, I`d like to take a look.
Gregor Grigorian: Www.longislandwebmaster.com
Its probably a waste of time. Even targetting long tail keywords doesnt work
Gregor Grigorian: Theres too much competition in my area. I might have to go walking from business to business
Casey Markee: Gregor, I can find absolutely NO BACKLINKS to that domain. Nothing is showing up in Majestic, Moz or Ahrefs.
Again, you have to promote the site a little. If all you are doing is "hoping" your content is going to pull in links, that`s not enough.
Pop some money on some Facebook Ads and drive some traffic that way. Look at creating some compelling guides or content that will pull in some links.
Look at joining some community organizations or your local BBB. I don`t even see a focus on citations. Nothing.
You can`t just put the site up and say "hey World, here I am!"
There are dozens and dozens of quality link building guides online. I`d urge you to review some of them and start there. And yes, in your case, start making up some flyers and trying to get in front of people locally.
Do a free presentation to local Chambers. Offer your expertise for free to some local businesses. Find examples to showcase your talent and services, then present that on your site.
Jim Munro: Almost all of the pages you have indexed are tag pages. Consider noindexing these.
Jim Munro: Too soon to give up, Gregor Grigorian :)
Jim Munro: Are there any backlinks to your domain? I cannot find any either.
Alan Bleiweiss: Okay time for me to speak up. Casey is spot on. However I`m going to go even further. You ARE showing up for "Long Island Webmaster" in the #1 position organically. Except you have massive on-site problems.
I am not looking to be harsh in a harmful, hurtful or arrogant way. I am only going to point out reality. Reality that nobody here has yet even bothered to see, or realize the importance of, and which is much more important than all of these other suggestions so far as your most important tasking.
You have a CRITICAL weakness on-site. How can you even begin to expect to show up in a deeply competitive industry when, even before getting inbound links, you have ONE page devoted to ALL of your services? And where that page has almost no content? That will never work. Hoping a lot of blog content will work is NOT proper sustainable SEO.
You need one page dedicated to each of your main services, at the very least, all of which need to be linked to from the main "services" page. Each such page needs no less than five hundred to eight hundred words of unique content.
To be honest though, if you don`t understand how critical these issues are, I do not suggest you offer SEO at this point. Get your own site straightened out and then once you do start showing up for all of these different service pages, maybe you can start offering SEO professionally.
Sherbaz Khan: Hey man. You are Providing SEO and your Own site is Not even no way near to an SEO standard. Sites layout looks complete crap and gives users a terrible expierence. Man work on your site design and Before providing SEO do SEO for your own site..
Jody Nesbitt: No offense meant here, but i would reconsider what you are doing seriously, how can you offer SEO as a service if you intented to jump in facebook looking for help with the basics, also, what Sherbaz said as well - your site has broken PHP errors, your Page titles will never rank, you have zero content about SEO itself, what you do have is a mass of conflicting info on the home page, about what you do, so google cant rank it, because it does not know what you do, and with no pages by themselves to back up what you are saying you do, how will Big G find out ? your services page has one line about SEO, and its this "Search Engine Optimization for your website." the blog post on SEO is so keyword stuffed that I`d be very surprised if it ever ranked
Jody Nesbitt: my comment was regarding on-site SEO from Sherbaz comment, yes, design is a very subjective thing, but i stand by my other comments, the site, as is will never rank, it has nothing to rank with,
Jim Munro: There`s not a person, living or dead, who knows/knew it all and downhill from there, it`s all subjective and too broad an undertaking to quantify. I`d like to think that we could confine ourselves to the technical aspects of SEO and leave the judgement to the individual. I don`t think Gregor`s site looks all that bad, I am not going to count but I reckon I have many sites that look worse. :)
Neil Cheesman: For me:
The site comes up with
Warning: Class __PHP_Incomplete_Class has no unserializer in /home/content/a2pewpnas01_data01/92/3885792/html/wp-content/object-cache.php on line 894
A side note that I am seeing all too often, where `seo experts` are OFFERING a service when it appears that they don`t even know how to PROVIDE that service... (I make no judgement on this person/site)
Jeremy L. Knauff: I have to agree with Jody Nesbitt.
Gregor only started doing this 3 months ago and is asking basic questions while presenting himself as "Best SEO Company in Long Island!" This is teetering between professional malpractice and outright fraud in my opinion.
What`s going to happen when you take your clients` money, get no results, and then have to tell them you have no idea what you`re doing? You need to spend your time learning the trade before taking any money for it. Produce results on your own site(s) before you start charging others for your work.
Steve Gerencser: I left the seo forums over posts like this from people selling services as SEOs. It harms the industry in countless ways.
Jim Munro: If nothing else, participating in this has confirmed to me that there is still life in Exact Match domains. :)
Jim Munro: If Gregor is asking "basic questions", then shouldn`t that oblige us to provide the right answers?
I read somewhere that Gregor has been doing this for three years. It`s up to Gregor to ensure the accuracy of his statements but asking a basic question does not automatically mean that he has been doing a bad job for the past years given that onpage/offpage SEO is not all that a well-rounded SEO does. We shouldn`t jump to a confusion. :)
