Dumb SEO Questions

My site doesn`t even pop up when searching Google

Hey! I`m going to be honest, I have NO CLUE what I`m doing. I own a small concrete coatings company in the Omaha, Nebraska area. I`ve done everything from designing my own logo to using WIX to build my own website. I believe in trying things on my own before asking for help and funds are thin with startups, as we all know. The competition is stiff around here and I`m really struggling to exact an online presence and get people to my website. In fact, my site doesn`t even pop up when searching Google. I`ve watched plenty of YouTube videos as well, but I`m just not getting it. This is me taking my shot and asking for help. Im not asking for anyone to do it for me, but if told what to do, I can figure it out (hopefully). I understand everyone`s time is valuable so I truly appreciate any and all help.

  • Josh Levenson: What`s the specific question? SEO is a pretty broad topic.

  • Samuel Wools: Josh Levenson I`m looking for someone to tell me what to do. Start to finish.

  • Josh Levenson: Start off trying to rank for your company name. Follow the advice for Google My Business. If you have any social media profiles, link those to your website.

  • Stephen Kaufman: Step 1. Dump wix and rebuild in wordpress

  • Samuel Wools: Stephen Kaufman is it that bad?

  • Cathy Gray: Samuel Wools wix is ok, most prefer other platforms

  • Tim Capper: So I would go down to routes for a local business:

Optimise your Google My Business Profile:https://onlineownership.com/.../optimise-your-google-my.../

    Optimise for Local on Website:https://onlineownership.com/.../optimise-your-website.../

These are my basic guides - but there are plenty out there.

    Focus on Local

  • Michael Martinez: Well, the good news is that your site is indexed in Google but you`ve optimized your pages for the company name. Brand optimization works best when people know about and trust a brand enough to search for it.

If you`re doing all the work yourself and don`t have much time for creating content, I suggest you start with a FAQ page. Pick 5-7 answers that potential clients ask you about your services and how the coatings work, how long they last, are they guaranteed, etc. Write 1-2 paragraphs in response to each question.

Doing that will at least get you into competition for low-volume queries.

I`d also create a page describing your service area. Mention the communities in the Omaha area where you can do the work. Name the kinds of businesses that are most likely to seek out your services.

If you don`t have a Bing or Google business page, you should set one up. There are people here - like Tim Capper - who can explain how to do that (far better than me).

  • Samuel Wools: Michael Martinez quality advice, sir. How should I optimize the pages, towards the individual services?

  • Michael Martinez: Samuel Wools Create the pages first. Then come back and share them with the group and ask for specific suggestions.

Take this one step at a time.

  • Samuel Wools: Michael Martinez got ya! I`ll be back. Thanks again.

  • Rob van Laere: Make more contentInternal linking to the pages that matterDon’t write about “we” but use your brand nameLink to authority pagesShare “hacks” that link to pages that matter.

    Grow

  • Cathy Gray: Google your business name, if your website doesn’t pop up, then the big G hasn’t associated the two together yet. Do what Tim said first

  • Audrey Wood: I would switch from wix if you can.

FAQs are good. Also, think about what people would be searching for to find your company or your competitor and answer those questions.

Have a very clear about page with photos, who to contact, address etc

Hope that helps. If you have specific questions ask them

  • Zachary Toto: Whether you`re wanting to continue to do it yourself or need a professional, I`d be happy to help. Send me your website in a private message and I`d be happy to give you some advice on where to go from here.

  • Alex ALva: I rambled a lot but here is a video I made for you with what little information I have and with the little that I do know. Disclaimer I am not an SEO expert I am learning as well but wanted to help as much as I could.

  • Samuel Wools: Alex ALva thank you for this. Never expected to get a live review and you definitely packed since useful stuff in here. I`ll be in touch.

  • Alex ALva: Samuel Wools Of course just trying to be as helpful as I can be!

  • Jennifer Herringe: My advice is to think like your customer. What is the end result they are after. I am fairly certain they are not searching for concrete coating- so instead discuss on your website the end product result that they want.Secondly get into google my business. Update this regularly and encourage customers to leave reviewsLastly, connect to your business fb page. This is extremely extremely basic advice- but where you need to start

  • Brandon Deane: wix is a huge problem. i would go wordpress then you can add plugins like yoast/seopress etc etc

  • Rudolf Ladyzhenskii: If I were you, I would start with SEO local. Go to google.com.au/business and create business profile. Try to get as many 5-star feedbacks there as possible (ask your customers to leave you one). Then your site should have local SEO optimisation (schema for local business, etc...). I am working with Wordperss mainly and RankMath plugin is good for this.To be honest, using Wordpress with something like Avada theme will get your site up an running very quick. And much more flexibility than with Wix. RankMath or Yoast will help you to optimise pages for the keywords you need

  • Ron McCabe: Spend your time and focus on your google my business. This might be the most important thing for you right now

  • Alex ALva: I think this is vastly underrated by the average business owner. I have had clients who have no website getting great business just from a GMB & Facebook page.

  • Zeeshan Amin: Google My BusinessAnd publish content on low competitive keywords.

  • Zeeshan Amin: Sami Ul Haq

  • Haq Ul Sami: For a local business you need to have a GMB which is fully optimized. Link Ur site and GMB together. Write at least 20-25 GMB post but SEO optimized. Uploaded more image`s to GMB Make sure your site is SEO friendly for local searchs. Add at lease 1500 words of content to home page and make geo and niche relevant. Do at least 100 citations for GMB in the next 20-30 days. Buy some backlinks to your site. Make a you tube channel and link your GMB and website And also all others social media accounts. If you need any kind of help dm me.

  • Ivana OV Ćirković: The main issue is Wix. Go for WordPress, create valuable content that resonate with your target ausience, using language they use and explaining/showing how your offer is the best for them (and why), use appropriate and relevant kw and you’ll make all the difference.

  • Samuel Wools: I appreciate everyone reaching out. I`m going to build the site in Wordpress and work on EVERYTHING you all suggested including Google My Business. I`ll update you all on this post for feedback when I`m finished. Thanks again!

  • Brenda Malone: I applaud your enthusiasm, but at some point you really have to consider the opportunity lost while you are coding and not growing your business.

  • Samuel Wools: Brenda Malone I`m confused. What opportunity is lost?

  • Alex ALva: Samuel Wools I think Brenda Malone Is referring to not directly growing your business since you are using up time to build your website as opposed to using that same time to get new business and possibly hiring out the building of your website.

  • Samuel Wools: Alex ALva I know what she meant. I don`t see it that way. We`re booked thru October currently. I work on this stuff in the evening and in between coats drying on the floor. I don`t stop.

  • Alex ALva: Samuel Wools I guess that`s better than watching the coating dry

  • Samuel Wools: Alex ALva damn straight!
