Dumb SEO Questions

Any input is much appreciated!

Looking for some help.I rank in Google in the 1st position for “seo company” in my town in the map pack (and many variants of this search term) (Sometimes 2nd or 3rd in organic listings).I get about 700 impression monthly, and only receive around 3 clicks even though I’m in the 1st position locally. I’m trying to increase clicks by split testing title tags and updating my content (if Google will ever re-index my website ), but I don’t even know if it’s worth my limited time at this point.I understand this search term is competitive and there are a lot of paid ads that take up a lot of space on the SERPs, but you would think I would be receiving more clicks been in the first local spot (especially being SEO services )I’m just confused on strategy and what avenue to take to get more people to my SEO Services website.Any input is much appreciated!Thank you

  • Christine Hansen: Hard to say without knowing your site, but wonder if your titles are for human beings or bots?! Also, you might have a hard look at your keywords. When the organic CTR score is that low, it usually has something to do with the keywords. Eg. wrong people get the SERP and do not click because it is of no interest to them.

  • Ammon Johns: Most of the time, keywords like "SEO company" and the variations are vanity terms. People compete for them to boast that they rank, but almost no actual business comes directly from any searches for those terms.

When you then magnify that by only ranking for the search term in a fixed geographical radius, 3 genuine clicks probably means 2 competitors and one actual visitor.

The keywords that drive real business are those with more specific needs and intent. Questions relating to traffic, to conversions, to issues with analytics, those are actual customer issues that they need fixed, rather than idle lookie-loo casual search.

Write content about *specific* SEO issues you fix, about specific business demands you supply, etc. Those are what you want to rank for.

Remember that this is 2021, not 2001. Most businesses online that have the least hope of being successful have either been around long enough to have already worked with some SEO companies, and be looking for an upgrade in service provider, or at least employ people that are aware of SEO and probably had specific companies in mind.

Local search for `SEO` vanity terms is only going to get you very local small businesses, with small mindsets, hoping that the local company will be cheaper and easier for them. That small mindset is already a disadvantage to them that good SEO alone won`t easily overcome. They`ll be harder to rank than a company with a more open, big world attitude, in every single regard. And they`ll respect you a lot less.

  • Gail Kingswell Trueman: I made that mistake years ago trying to rank for my nearest New Town. Now I rank for the year it was built and population but not for the services I provide there. I’m in two minds whether to delete the page as it does not provide me with any useful traffic

  • Christine Hansen: Gail Kingswell Trueman Perhaps you could make a post about your missing traffic. What you have done or tried so far. Perhaps someone is sitting on the magic key or something for you to try out.

  • Gail Kingswell Trueman: Christine Hansen leave it with me

  • Zachary Michael: I want to thank you all considerably for your help, I really appreciate it.
