My main site is targeting Australia but its blog is not

Hi Guys, if i have a .com domain targeting Australia in GSC, it has a blog and i want some of the articles to rank internationally, do you think Google will limit my exposure to overseas countries e.g. USA due to GSC being set to Australia?

  • Richard Hearne: It depends. If you have content that is relevant outside AU, and provides a better answer than competing content, then I`m sure that Google will present your site in other EN-speaking SERPs. It`s a balancing act really - if you remove the geotargeting you may see reduced AU traffic. The best approach might be to remove the geotargetging and see what happens. If you do lose AU traffic then maybe time to have multiple sites (could be on same domain) targeting different locales e.g. /au/ and /intl/. You can then set different geotargeting settings for each subfolder (or subdomain if you prefer).

In general, the answer to this question will not be straightforward at all, and probably requires quite a bit of analysis.
