Looking for some advice on what to choose for the URL

Looking for some advice, insight or examples of multi-brand websites. Because of many reasons, the website is going to combine a bunch of brands. There will be a global navigation and then, if users choose, individual branded sub-navigations (if someone wants to navigate the site by sub-brand).Best advice on what to choose for the URL (since people can get to an article by global nav or by individual sub-brand nav, the URL would be domain.com/topic/article or domain.com/brand/topic/article.
