It`s banned in Google

I`m looking at getting an expired domain name but according to dnprotect.com it`s banned in Google. Also when I Google site:thedomainname.com there are no results. So, this is not good and I should not get it right?

  • Tim Capper: Sounds very sketchy

  • Bryce Adams: Actually, from memory I think it may have been hacked inthe past as I vaguely remember that going beyond the homepage took you to unrelated spammy stuff.

  • Rudolf Ladyzhenskii: You may be able to request a review from Google once you claim ownership. You will not Know until u try.In any case, I would not pay for this domain anything beyond registration fee

  • Michael Martinez: You can`t trust the tool`s determination that a domain is banned in Google.

I have a test domain that I prevent Google from indexing. DN Protect`s tool says the domain is banned.

The tool also interprets "Current status No available data" as "potentially dangerous", which is ridiculous.

I would not rely on these reports when making a purchase decision. But don`t use 3rd-party SEO metrics of any kind, as far as I am concerned, as they are only automated opinions and don`t provide any insight into whether search engines trust a domain.

  • Bryce Adams: Michael Martinez thanks, yeah i’m yet to feel confident in that websites report which is why i also tried the site search in google. How else can I check on a domain name before buying? This one is a former competitor and still has some good back links but i don’t want it if it’s toxic and will drag me down.

  • Stockbridge Truslow: Yeah - definitely agree with Michael here... If a domain is expired, there`s no web site. If it has been expired for more than a few weeks, you`d expect that it wouldn`t have a site listed on Google because... well... because there`s no site there to list. Google is pretty quick about purging sites that go away. More than about 72 hours of downtime and things start to vanish. Go for more than a few months and historical data starts to fall out of the database, too.

And as Michael says... the tools report other potential things as potential hazards when they really aren`t.

  • Bryce Adams: Stockbridge Truslow ok yeah it’s expired but it takes three months before you can buy it (domain name renewal grace period).

  • Michael Martinez: I look at domain histories in the Wayback Machine to see if they may have engaged in spammy (on-site) practices.

  • Jeff Ferguson: Skip it.
