Dumb SEO Questions

Is this correct, am I missing something?

Hey group, I have a further dumb SEO question: I’m using google ads for keyword research, I’m based in north Wales UK. Unfortunately where as England is broken down into cities/towns and counties (e.g Cheshire), in Wales it only seems possible to search via towns/cities, and not counties. What I’d really like to do is research search terms from allOf north Wales, but from what I can see, it’s not possible? It also doesn’t seem to be possible to draw your own search area, or do a specific town +5 miles (for example). Is this correct, am I missing something or is there an easier way around this? Many thanks in advance

  • Ben Adler: Just to be clear, are you looking to run ads or maybe doing some type of local seo? Just wondering why you would need such specific geo data.

  • Benjamin Williams: Ben Adler eventually yes run ads, but ATM local SEO. My friend (that I’m supporting) is a local photographer who doesn’t have easy access to transport, we’re only really looking for the small work - local photoshooots and the like. I understand when running an ad it is possible to do city +5 miles for example, wondering why it’s not possibly when doing keyword research. right now we want to see what opportunities exist locally.

  • Chris Edwards: The sample is too small, just go for the generic terms as they are searched from everywhere.

I am in SOuth Wales and have been doing SEO since before Google existed.

Thanks to the google localised search results people more and more are just searching for the service.

Make sure you have optimised the Google my Business listing as that will bring them in more work than anything else. adn it is also hyper locally focused

  • Tim Capper: You can narrow down geo areas for Ads but i suspect you are looking for On Site.

Pick a larger area - then create your queries and refine by adding other locations.

Also some things will be geo specific, like beaches in area and you will need to manually reserch.

Also to note - some terms may never appear in keyword planners - you need to research the area and what your users / want and need
