Is there anyway to optimise a pdf with Google?

Hi guys, we have a large number of pdfs being indexed but also ranking surprising high. Is there anyway to optimise a pdf with Google or recommendations around this. Guessing it`s best to integrate the PDF eon a webpage and optimise that way?
