Is it dangerous for my ranking if I rewrite the homepage?

I have entirely rewritten the homepage for a site. Is it OK to simply replace it? The content is really the same but expanded and written more clearly. Is this dangerous for my rankings? The site isn`t ranked very highly but I don`t want to do anything to hurt it.
