How to tell Google to fetch content instead of description?

Hi Everyone, I am new here and so not sure is this the right place to ask this question. If anyone could help me on this would be great.

I`ve just started working with seo - keywords, descriptions etc. In a website, when I am giving description, that entire description is coming when searched in Google. If I remove description tag, then google takes the content when searched. When I am searching for other sites, I am able to see that though they`ve given description, when googling along with the result the content in the website is displayed. But here its not the case.

Is there anything that I need to do more so that when googling it doesnt fetch content from description, but rather from the website content.

Thanks.

  • Jann Grond: Google takes what they think is best. So it's possible that they ignore meta tags.
  • vysakh venugopal: So, does that mean I really dont need to worry on that.?
  • Jann Grond: If you want content from the site, yes - don't use tags. But good written descriptions can help you to get more clicks. (CTR)

    More clicks can help you with your ranking. Google wants to provide the best results for the user, if 150 people type in the same keyword and 120 click on the 3rd result, it might be more relevant.
  • vysakh venugopal: would it be possible for you to google a company and suggest any changes in description.?
  • Rotimi Orimoloye: +vysakh venugopal
    If Google does not consider the description to adequately serve the user's search query then it picks something from the page text. ;
    If you did a good job with your description, then it is to your credit that they are showing yours. ;
  • vysakh venugopal: Thats great. So, are there any suggestions to showcase my business listing in google as a first entry.? Currently my site is getting listed in first when I google my company name. I mean if I have some travels website, then can I arrange to get that in first on google when user types tours and travel agencies in <some region>.

    "tours and travel agencies in <some region>"
    if you properly optimized your listing or maybe your website for the "region/country" that your trying to target/market. I mean knowing your target audience within your target place and the keyword that your trying to rank with, that would help you a lot.
