Google`s new algorithm on domain name

Our current ecommerce sites primary offering is leather items. Hence, the domain had "Leather" in it. I would like to diversify our product offering, by offering non leather items-suits and menswear. My seo manager is saying we should NOT offer non leather items due to Google`s new algorithm. He also suggested we can add the non leather items and create a social strategy vs organic. Or we can create a seperate site strictly for the non leather offerings. Is he correct about Google`s algorithms? Is it better to create a new site all together?

YOUR ANSWERS

  • Don Vermeer: Both options are valid and possible. Your SEO manager has a certain perspective and thought on doing things. So i`d go with what he suggests (instead of second guessing)
  • Richard Hearne: It`s never simple to answer "is someone`s opinion right or wrong". But your question seems to highlight "leather" in the domain name as being the primary reason not to sell non-leather goods. I suspect you are not recognizing the nuance of what your SEO specialist is advising, because I don`t think there is any possible reason for concerned over the word leather in domain.

The idea that Google`s algorithm would actively penalize sites for offering new items for sale is somewhat fanciful. I expect his concern is around focus of content, but even that is tenuous imo.
  • Andrew Simpson: 👆🏻 ditto!
  • Zohaib Sarvana: Richard Hearne that`s what I was thinking. I figured, we could create a seperate page and provide rich content for the non leather items.
  • Richard Hearne: Why not ask your SEO manner to elaborate on what he thinks might happen and apply some risk metrics to these outcomes? Personally, I do not believe that adding new products would have any overall SEO risk, but your SEO manager should have far greater familiarity with your site etc.
  • Michael Martinez: "My seo manager is saying we should NOT offer non leather items due to Google`s new algorithm. "
  • Alexandru Gabriel Iosif: There is no such thing as Google Algorithm that will limit your website ranking on any keywords.

The only thing you should care is about is the semantics and for that you just need to create a new category with related products.

The easiest example you can have is Amazon or any other big website with diversity products.

Go ahead man....there is NO such Algorithm.
  • David Rosam: No. He isn`t correct. No such algorithm. Worrying about keywords in domain names is an old thing, not a new one. Just get on with your business and content creation without worrying about your domain.
  • Zohaib Sarvana: Thanks all. Who wants to be my second set of eyes to make sure my seo guy is doing a good job and making a fool of me?
  • George G.: if you simply post your domain here, someone can take a look for you I guess.
  • Zohaib Sarvana: George G. He hasn`t started working yet
  • Sam Mah: Zohaib Sarvana if you have a second thought you should ditch him for me 🤪
  • Sam Mah: The keyword in the domain doesn`t mean much this day. Take a look at these sites: bedbathandbeyond.ca, buybuybaby.com, potterybarnkids.com
These sites are ranking on page one.
