Dumb SEO Questions

(Entry was posted by Eric Platt on this post in the Dumb SEO Questions community on Facebook, 09/09/2015).

Do we need to keep all this content original?

Will google consider my mission statement plagiarism if posted verbatim across multiple sites?

Our company, In Pursuit Promo, sells promotional products to a super wide audience. We are in the process of creating sites that speak to different niches (summer camps, medical professionals, schools, etc.). A lot of the body copy and the about page, for example, is pretty much the same information. Do we need to keep all this content "original" or can certain elements like the mission statement be kept the same without adversely effecting SEO rank?

Main site: goinpursuit(dot)com (will be overhauled next year)
First niche site: getspiritgear(dot)com.

Thank you!

  • Suraj Gadage: +Eric Platt ;I would not worry about your mission statement (only) being considered as duplicate content. But to answer your question, is it duplicate? Yes. However, when Google indexes, it can easily determine where the duplicate content originated and gives complete credit to the original source.

Apart from mission statement you are saying that a lot of body content will also be similar across your multi niche site. In this case I would suggest try to keep the content unique (if possible) and certain elements like the mission statement can be kept as is.

I have a question for you. Why do you want to create separate multi niche sites? Can't you create multi-site on the same domain? Example-  ;1. goinpursuit(dot)com/spring-gear
    2. goinpursuit(dot)com/health-gear

The advantages of having this model:
    1. Reduce the chances of creating duplicate content
    2. Save efforts and time required to develop authority of each niche site

    Hope this helps!
