Dumb SEO Questions

Can focussing too much on local search affect national search rankings?

A camping store site is ranking very well in local searches and gets a majority of visits/sales from people in the region, however they would still like to rank nationwide, and actually even internationally as well. Can focusing too much on optimizing local search negatively affect national search rankings? For the record, local referrals don`t necessarily help a whole lot more than national referrals, since they only sell online anyway.

We do a lot of local SEO and still ranks well for some of our targeted keywords on a national level. In fact, additional listings adds up to your brand name and most likely to help in boosting up your national rankings. I would say Local SEO is a great integration with the national SEO campaigns.
