rel="publisher" tag in the header, and rel="author" in the content

If you`ve got a rel="publisher" tag in the header, and rel="author" in the content, which is displayed in the search results?

Or, should this situation be avoided (i.e., don`t use rel="author" if you`ve got a rel="publisher" tag in the header)?

  • Masatake Wasa: You can place both, since they denote different types of relationship between the Google+ entities and the webpage (to simplify: Google+ profile = person = author, and Google+ page = thing / platform = publisher).

    At the moment, only the author mark up is used in terms of a Google+ profile picture appearing next to the search results, however I believe  ;Google+ pages can appear in the knowledge infopanel (+Tim Capper ;will correct me if I'm wrong).
  • W.E. Jonk: You can use rel publisher and rel author in the head or in the body section on a page. You can use them both on the same page but I think G will only show the rel author as a rich snippet in the SERPS. ;
  • Tim Capper: Yes +Masatake Wasa ;if you use the rel=publisher and have a visible address, you can have your own knowledge infopanel appear for Brand / Business name

    other then that,  ;rel=publisher is not displayed in serps.  ;I have a sneeky feeling rel=pub will start being displayed when rel=author becomes saturated.

    However if you test a page with rel=pub in rich snippet testing tool, it does display logo, so you never know, it could be in the pipeline
  • Mike Stetzer: Thanks +Masatake Wasa ;, +W.E. Jonk ; and +Tim Capper ;. I appreciate the feedback!
