Back linking strategy

Hi guys. I am going to be starting my second niche site soon, and a question occurred to me. Is it worth starting my back linking strategy now while I am still designing the site, or should I wait until the site is actually launched?

So for a little more detail, I have the domain, but I am still creating the website in a DEV environment only, so the domain would just be something like a static coming soon page. I realize it wouldn`t rank or anything of course, but would it benefit in the long run to start back linking even before the launch of the site?

Just a thought, thanks to everyone for the always helpful advice!

  • Suraj Gadage: +Kyle Hawk I would suggest you to wait till your site is complete.
  • Kyle Hawk: +Suraj Gadage Thanks Suraj. I was kind of leaning that way, but figured I would ask.
  • Tim Capper: I second Wait .... how could a site earn a "natural" link if it does not exist
  • Kyle Hawk: My thought process was to have a basic landing page, something like coming soon or a quick blurb about what the website will be. Then, as I'm working on it I would start spreading the word via back links, forums, etc. I guess I thought it would be nice for the site to be a little known when launched, but I realize that's more of a fairy tale dream.
  • Tim Capper: I would have a holding page certainly and yes promotional campaigns always good to build the hype

I may have misunderstood when you said link building startegy
