Dumb SEO Questions

When citations would result in inconsistent NAPs

I have a client, "Name Marketing" which is a division of "Name Communications." They have separate phone numbers and staff.Neither currently has a GMB. Communication`s knowledge panel is populated from Wikipedia. Marketing has no knowledge panel yet. Marketing is too new to be "notable" enough to deserve its own Wikipedia page, but we may be able to get a link in from Communication`s Wikipedia page. I would like to do citations for Marketing, but a quick check shows that Communications already has citations all over the web and they work out of the same address. How do I establish Marketing as an entity when citations would result in inconsistent NAPs (because Communications has the same address).

  • Michael Martinez: Seems like an unusual goal. I ran queries for quite a few large companies` marketing departments and none of them had any knowledge panels.
  • Ross Raffin: The thing is that Name is also the name of the geographic location they target.

So if someone is searching for a Location+Marketing I want us to have either a GMB or knowledge panel to take up some SERP real estate.
  • Brenda Michelin: Ross Raffin Are they absolutely two distinct companies, can the marketing side be highlighted from the enhanced Parent Company GMB?
  • Ross Raffin: That would be the issue. If they were completely distinct (different EIN etc) then I`d know how to handle this. But as I understand it, Name Marketing is more of a division of Communications that is getting their own website and phone number.
