Targeting 4 different countries

I have just launched a new website and it targets 4 different countries. It uses Wordpress and I have set it so when someone from the uk reaches the landing page which is .com it redirects them to .com/uk rather than giving them a choice. Would this have any effect on the indexing or ranking of the website as a whole?

  • Suraj Gadage: +Timothy Bond ;I haven't seen much of an impact on international sites with the current setting that you have described. However, Google recommends letting users choose all country versions (without automatic redirection), regardless of their location or browser settings.

    Hope this helps!
  • Dave Elliott: I HATE automatic redirection based on geo. Much better to pop up a message saying. "we notice that you are browsing from the UK would you like to view that version of the site instead"

It annoys me when i am on holiday in France and get forced onto a French site rather than the English.

Also with decent href lang site map it really is'nt necessary!
