Switching from http to https.

Hi Guys, just recently made the switch over from http to https. I have redirected all domain versions to  https://.www inside my .htaccess file I have a list of 301 redirects with the old domain version http://. Would you say this was good practice to change the redirects to https://www or am I fine to leave them the way they are? Any help would be great thanks!?

  • Simon Eade: Definately sounds as you have handled this well in 301'ing all redirects. Check out the advantages of switching to https https://moz.com/blog/seo-tips-https-ssl
  • Dave Elliott: I read this the same way as jim. If legacy redirects are now now redirecting twice it will be beneficial to alter these to go directly to the new https version of the page. Chained redirects are never a good thing.
  • Ylia Callan: Well no, if you have links pointing to the old URLs you need to keep them as http and then redirect to https version.
  • Jim Munro: Hi +Ylia Callan ;, thank you for your participation here. :)

I'm not sure what you mean about keeping urls as http. For example, the homepage will no longer be available as http, it will be 301 redirected to https.

It seems to me that it makes sense to change legacy redirects to http urls to their https version.
  • Ylia Callan: Hi Jim, i miss read that, yeah your right change the redirects to point to https ;)
