  • Ljubomir Tesic: I read lately lot of about website ;siloing. So ;I ;start to implement this website ;architecture ;on one of my websites. How are your experiences ;with silo ;architecture and website ranking? Any suggestions and tips?
  • Edwin Jonk: If I understand you correct, with website siloing you want to have a website around a specific theme and not a general broad theme. Which is considered best practise. ;

    I never started to implement that on a site. Because that thought process should be done on forehand. Namely, you ask yourself what is the reason for the site. Why does anyone needs the site. And do people need another site or resource. What can you offer that is unique or better than your competitors.

    However during the lifetime of the site you need to stay on track with the theme. And that can be quite challenging. ;

    So in essence (if I understand you correct) I think it is more of a content strategy question. Therefore, let me ping +David Rosam ;, because he knows how to write for SEO.
  • Ljubomir Tesic: My question was directed to your (or anyone) experience with this kind of web sites. Does web sites with this architecture really achieve good ranking in search engines or everything is just a modern seo fairy tale? And how much time is required after the establishment of such architecture of the web site to show first results?
  • David Rosam: I think Content Siloing is a bit of high-powered terminology for doing what is natural when planning and implementing a website.

    It's really about grouping pages together that have a common topic and related key phrases - suppose you're selling Pink Fluffy goods, you'd group Pink Fluffy SEOs (such as +Tim Capper) together, and Pink Fluffy Developers together and so on.

    Even if yours isn't an E-commerce site, your blog might have a category about Celebrities who own something Pink & Fluffy. How to declutter your Pink & Fluffies, and so on.

    It makes for a better User Experience because the website's content is easier to grasp.

    Good UX will probably help your Google ranking, but I think good structure is so fundamental, I haven't set up a website without siloing (if you prefer) for years. So I can't say how much leverage it gives to web ranking.

    I see it as just good practice.
  • Ljubomir Tesic: Last sentence explains all, thanks
