  • Alan Bleiweiss: With proper breadcrumbs, the self-pointing element in the breadcrumb navigation sequence is not hot-linked. It is only shown for reference as to "yes, this is the page you are on". As such, it would not be helpful for site navigating needs, to have a breadcrumb on the home page itself, where the only element is that home page, since it "should not be" hot-linked. Note too, as a bonus insight, many breadcrumb code blocks do hot-link the last element in breadcrumb navigation code, causing a self-pointing loop, which is not helpful to crawl efficiency or usability.
